Some Tips on Taking Omega-3 Liquid Gold

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

You could put the 2 teaspoons into a shooter glass and drink it down like a shooter!  My daughter gave my 2 1/2 year old grandson one-half teaspoon yesterday in a syringe.  At first he didn’t like it, then he started licking his lips and said “yummy, this is Grandma’s fish oil”.  We sure have come a long way from the cod liver oil days.  That is a good sign!!  You can also mix the oil with a dressing of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and put on your salad.  Mixing it in with a fruit smoothie will also work; however, the quickest way to take it is by simply swallowing it down…

You can bite into citrus fruit before you take the liquid oil, or once you have swallowed the liquid, you will have a taste of mandarin orange in your mouth.  Because our Omega-3 Liquid Gold is triglyceride (TG – natural), rather than ethyl esther (EE – ethyl esther), it is thicker in texture.  I ensure that there is no fish oil on my lips by wiping with a napkin so I am not walking around smelling like a sardine.  I then take a drink or bite into something and the taste is completely gone.  If I get any oil on my hands, I wash immediately because you will start to smell it on your hands once it hits the air.  This is because there is no gelatin capsule to protect the oil from oxidation.

Also ensure that you are taking the fish oil with a meal, as the liquid will enter the bloodstream a lot faster, because your body does not have to breakdown the gelatin capsule first.  It takes approximately 60 minutes for a capsule to dissolve.

Well I know this is more than what you asked for, but it’s just some tips I have found that work.  Please let me know what you think of the Omega-3 Liquid Gold once you receive it.

Encouraging results from the largest clinical study ever conducted on treating depression with Omega-3

Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil Capsules

Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil Capsules

The use of Omega-3 supplements is effective among patients with major depression who do not have anxiety disorders, according to a study directed by Dr. François Lespérance of the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier at the Université de Montréal (CRCHUM), head of CHUM’s Department of Psychiatry and a professor at the Université de Montréal. The study was published June 15 in the online Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.

This was the largest study ever conducted assessing Omega-3′s efficacy in treating major depression. It was carried out in conjunction with researchers from centres affiliated with the UdM’s Réseau universitaire intégré de santé (RUIS), from McGill University, Université Laval in Quebec City and Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. The study was supported by the European firm isodisnatura, the Fondation du CHUM and the CRCHUM.

Initial analyses failed to clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of Omega-3 for all patients taking part in the study. Other analyses, however, revealed that Omega-3 improved depression symptoms in patients diagnosed with depression unaccompanied by an anxiety disorder. Efficacy for these patients was comparable to that generally observed with conventional antidepressant treatment.

Fish Oil 101 – Get the Basics

Monday, June 14th, 2010

There are three types of fish oil:

  • Cod liver oil
  • Health grade fish oil
  • Pharmaceutical grade fish oil (“PGFO”)

What is Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil?

Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil standards are as follows:

  • At least 60% of the long-chain fatty acids must consist of EPA and DHA (40:20 TG).
  • AA/EPA ratio must be less than .04.
  • PCBs per gram of oil should have a much lower level of 45 ppb.

Omega-3 PGFO

Omega-3 PGFO

A-M B-Well Omega-3 PGFO is a highly concentrated triglyceride base fish oil that uses only the finest quality raw materials of fish oils from ocean fish like anchovies, mackerel and sardines. The oil is then put through an exclusive 6-step manufacturing process for extracting the Omega-3s from the fish oil and refining them. In numerous studies, the absorption of Omega-3 fatty acids in their natural triglyceride form are superior to the synthetic ethyl ester form that is common in other concentrated Omega-3 products. Each bottle contains 90 capsules. Each 1,000 mg. capsule contains a minimum of *400 mg. of EPA and *200 mg. of DHA (both as triglyceride, TG), for a minimum summed total of 600 mg. of Omega-3s per capsule.  The remaining 400 mg. is made up of glycerin, purified water, and 10 I.U.s of Vitamin E for oxidative stability.  Our pharmaceutical grade fish oil has been purified using advanced molecular distillation to make it virtually contamination free of PCB’s, mercury, dioxins, and furans, often  present in related products containing Omega-3 fatty acids. Our pharmaceutical grade fish oil is also gluten free!

How to Select 5 Star Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil:

  • Check that your bottle of pharmaceutical grade fish oil has a Lot Number that has been posted on an official IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) consumer report site such as IFOS.
  • Check to ensure that you are buying a TG (natural) PGFO and not an EE (synthetic) PGFO.
  • Check the ingredient label to ensure that the pharmaceutical grade fish oil has a 60% Omega-3 concentration and complies with the CRN and WHO standards.
  • Ask your supplier for a Certificate of Analysis and look for its 5 star rating to confirm that the pharmaceutical grade fish oil has exceeded these international standards.

A Certificate of Analysis for each batch of A-M B-Well Omega-3 PGFO has been posted at IFOS under Consumer Reports.

Is Your Fish Oil Safe?

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Dear Friend,

Omega-3 fatty acids are also called essential fatty acids (“EFAs”).  As with some vitamins, the body cannot synthesize Omega-3s so therefore they must be introduced with the diet.

Recently published clinical literature has shown that Omega-3 fatty acids can:

  • Lower total cholesterol and increase good cholesterol “HDL”, helping to keep the heart healthy
  • Reduce  triglycerides to 40%
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve memory, concentration and learning
  • Keep  skin healthy and vital and fight aging
  • Fight the formation of thrombi
  • Reduce the risk of heart attack
  • Lower the risk for some cancers
  • Decrease symptoms of angina and heart palpitations
  • Be helpful in pregnancy
  • Improve mood and fight depression
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Improve the symptoms of psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s Disease, ADD, ADHD, Crohn’s disease or lupus, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, premenstrual syndrome and painful periods
  • Reduce the risk of macular degeneration of the eyes
  • Make cell membranes more fluid, prevent stiffness and deterioration (replacing saturated fats)
  • Be useful for the hormonal system
  • Help the body to maintain its temperature

The best diet is one that is rich in fish, preferably small in size, at the bottom of the food chain.  This will help prevent contamination from mercury, PCB’s and other toxins in medium to large fish.

The minimum daily requirement of Omega-3s as recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (“FAO”) is 1.5% of daily caloric needs.  For example, if you consume 1,800 kcal per day of food, you should ingest at least 3 grams of Omega-3s.  This amount is hard to reach because foods rich in these fats are not very attractive, and not everyone wants or can eat fish every day.  If you cannot reach the recommended daily amount of Omega-3s from food, it then becomes crucial to choose an Omega-3 supplement.
